Today We Save!

Why?

Many years ago, when I was fresh out of college and new to Corporate America, I heard a statistic that the majority of Americans spend more time planning a single 5-day vacation than they do planning for their retirement. It stopped me in my tracks then and it continues to rear up in the back of my mind each time I hear someone talk about living paycheck to paycheck, having credit card debt they can’t seem to catch up with, or are nearing retirement and are facing the possibility that it’s not actually possible for them. Money was always a contentious topic when I was a kid and as I have gotten older, I’ve found that in many ways it continues to be no different. That’s why I’m here – if I can do anything on this Earth, I want it to be positive, to leave a legacy, and to help the communities I am a part of. Why not start with money? Why not start with helping people gain comfort with positioning themselves for money success – no matter what that looks like?!

What will you find here?

Well, probably too many things, but hopefully at least half of them are helpful! I’d like to make this a place where I share lessons I have learned on my own financial journey, things others preach and my thoughts on them, as well as hopefully providing resources to those who visit that are easy to leverage and follow to make life a little easier.

What won’t you find here?

Preaching, money guilt, and money shaming. Why? Because I can’t stand it, LOL! Your life is your life and you are free to make decisions about the money you have in any way you would like. I don’t find it helpful to guilt people into giving up things that make them happy or add joy. I myself just spent $45 at Target on matching Valentine’s Day outfits for my three small girls. Conventional money advice would tell you that was a waste of money and I should have saved that for groceries or investing or 87 other things that would not provide me the same joy I get from dressing the girls the same, seeing their excitement when they match, and savoring the very short time I have in their lives when they think that cute things like matching with their sisters is the MOST FUN THING EVER! Now, yes, I did spend that $45, and yes, I will need to think about what I need to manage in my financial life that allows that to bring me the joy it does, but that’s what we are here for. When we think about money, there should never be guilt, there should never be shame. There should be an understanding of what I have coming in and what I have going out, and then a personal analysis of what is important to me and what I want to spend the difference on!

So, let’s get started…
